Arjan van der Linde, TERMINAL MANAGER CPR Arjan van der Linde (44) commenced employment with Cruise Port eleven years ago and is now the Terminal Manager of Cruise Port Rotterdam.
What makes him special is that he sees everything. Sometimes he is said to have eyes in the back of his head – this is in addition to his many other qualities, of course! As a PFSO (Port Facility Security Officer) Arjan shares responsibility for the safety within the ISPS area (International Ship & Port Security).
Arjan: “It’s about the safety of the entire quay area, including the boarding bridge. In other words, the safety on the terminal and between the shore and vessel. This always comes first!”
Arjan manages a team of some twelve colleagues. “We are currently working on shore power for cruise vessels too,” he continues. “It is our aim that cruise vessels can use it as from mid 2024. The position of the ship is arranged as perfectly as possible, the mooring and unmooring is performed by the KRVE boatsmen. We are fortunate that our work has a lot of variation in it, such as helping passengers, solving any issue that might occur and of course fulfilling the captain’s or hotel director’s wishes. Special events also take place, such as the christening of MS Rotterdam VII by HRH Princess Margriet last year or the christening of MS Koningsdam in 2016 by HRH then Princess Máxima, the arrival of AIDAnova, the first LNG vessel at the quay, Mein Schiff 4 and 6 at our quay together, the arrival of Oasis of the Seas – events that make our work even more fun!”
